Coffee Chats fills job applications for you through the Chrome extension. You pick the jobs, the extension opens each application in Chrome and fills it in, and you check it and press Submit yourself. The extension never submits an application. Each job uses one job credit. The credit covers that job’s tailored resume and cover letter, their regenerations, and the extension filling the form. It is used the first time Coffee Chats does real work on the job, so filling the same job again costs nothing more. Free includes 50 job credits a month and Pro includes 100. Applying never spends Coffee Credits. After reading this page you will know what to set up first, the ways to start applying, what happens while the extension fills, and what to do when it stops and asks for you.

Before you start: job application setup

You can browse jobs and save them before any setup. The first time you press an apply button in Coffee Chats, a sheet titled “Before your first application” asks once, and your answers go on every application. In the side panel, “Finish setup to apply” shows until you have done it. The sheet asks for four things.
  1. Your resume. The extension attaches it to the applications it fills. Upload one, or keep the file already on your profile.
  2. Your phone number and your city, which most applications ask for.
  3. A few quick answers. These are the questions most applications ask and that Coffee Chats cannot guess: whether you are authorized to work in the US, whether you will need sponsorship, whether you are a U.S. citizen, whether you are 18 or older, whether you will complete a background check, whether you will relocate or work in person, whether you graduate within the next 12 months, and whether the extension should tick certification and terms boxes. Whether you worked for the company before and your pay expectations are not asked: each form asks you those. Work authorization, sponsorship and citizenship are under “Only you can answer these”, and you pick each yourself. The rest are under “Check these”: Coffee Chats picks an answer from your profile or its usual answers, and you change any that are wrong. The voluntary self-identification questions (gender, race or ethnicity, veteran status and disability status) are set to “Decline to self-identify”; “Review them” shows them.
  4. How far Coffee Chats goes on its own, if you have not chosen yet. “Just show me” does only what you press Apply on. “Get it ready” picks the resume, fills the answers and drafts written answers, then waits for you in Applications. “Fill it, I’ll submit” also opens the form in Chrome and fills it, and you read it over and press Submit. You can change this later on the Jobs page under Profile, or with the Change link in the side panel.
Then you press the button that names what happens next, such as “Save and apply”. On a phone or in a browser other than Chrome it reads “Save and get it ready”. Closing the sheet sends nothing, and the next press of the apply button opens it again. Your answers fill applications that ask the same question, except as described under When an application pauses and needs you. You can change them later under Settings, Job preferences, in the section headed “Application answers”, or on the Jobs page under Profile, “Everyday answers”.

Three ways to start

From the Jobs page

The Jobs page has three tabs: For you, Applications and Profile.
  1. On For you, press “Apply to N” on a company, or “Apply to the top N” to send the page’s top open roles.
  2. On Applications, tick jobs under Ready and press “Apply to N”.
Up to 25 jobs go in one launch. Open an application to see the resume and cover letter it will use and the answers it will fill. Until the extension has connected, the button reads “Add to Chrome to fill” and opens the install page instead. If Chrome is closed, the jobs wait and start when Chrome opens.

From the side panel

The side panel opens on your Jobs queue. Under “Ready to fill (N)” are your saved jobs that have an apply link, each with a review card that shows the resume, cover letter and answers it will use.
  • Tick the jobs you want, then press “Fill N”, where N is how many you ticked.
  • On an application page, a “This page” card names the job. Press “Fill this page” to fill it in that tab. If the page is not in your list yet, the extension saves the job to your tracker first. If the job needs a check before it can fill, the side panel opens it in the list and says “Check this job below before filling it.”

From CoffeeGPT or a connected agent

Ask CoffeeGPT to apply to your saved jobs, or ask an agent connected through Coffee Chats MCP to do the same with jobs.applications.apply. If the extension is running, the applications start. If it is not, the jobs are added to Applications to launch later. If CoffeeGPT or an agent added a job’s apply link itself, that job waits until you approve it in the side panel or launch it from Applications. An assistant cannot send the extension to an address you have not seen.

On a phone or another browser

The extension runs only in Chrome on a computer. On a phone or in another browser, Coffee Chats gets applications ready instead: the button reads “Queue N for Chrome”, and the jobs wait in Applications until Chrome on your computer fills them. On a phone, “Send to my computer” sends the ready jobs on, and “Apply on this phone” lets you apply there by copying each answer into the form.

What happens while it fills

  • The extension checks for new launches about once a minute while Chrome is open, and whenever you open the side panel. A launch it has not picked up within 24 hours expires.
  • It opens each application in its own tab, in a tab group named “Applications”, and fills one application at a time.
  • It fills the form, attaches your resume and cover letter, and leaves the tab open. It never presses Submit: you review the form and submit it yourself. The side panel shows how far we go on our own.
  • Check each filled application and submit it yourself. Then mark it “Yes, mark applied”, which moves the job to Applied in your tracker. “Fill again” fills the form a second time.
Applications opens with a “Right now” line, such as “Right now: 2 need you, 1 in Chrome, 3 ready to fill, 4 saved.”, and groups every application under Needs you, Ready, Sent and Closed. While a batch runs, the side panel has a Stop link.

When an application pauses and needs you

The extension pauses an application, marks it “Needs you”, and says why, rather than guess. The common reasons:
  • A required question has no saved answer. Open the application on Applications and press “Answer N questions”, or open “Review details” on the row in the side panel. Save the answer, then fill it again. The answer then fills later applications that ask it.
  • The site wants you to sign in, or shows a CAPTCHA. Do that yourself in the tab, then retry.
  • The form needs a resume and none is on your profile, or a cover letter the extension could not attach.
  • The site is not on the extension’s list and needs a click on the Coffee Chats icon in Chrome’s toolbar. See which sites the extension can read.
  • The application ran out of steps or time, or the page stopped changing.
  • The form has fields Coffee Chats could not fill. “Open and finish myself” opens the application so you can complete it.
Legal and sensitive questions, such as work authorization, sponsorship, citizenship, criminal record, salary history and self-identification, pause when they are required and are left blank when they are optional, except when the question is a recognized wording of one of your setup questions, asked as a plain list or set of options that includes your answer. Questions about past employment at the company and about pay are never filled from your saved answers. The extension never types a Social Security number or a date of birth, and Coffee Chats refuses to store them.

Your saved application answers

Answers you save are kept until you change or remove them. You can keep up to 200.
  • Settings, Job preferences, “Application answers” holds your setup answers.
  • Jobs, Profile, “Everyday answers” shows the same setup answers on the Jobs page.
Changing a setup answer stops any application still waiting to fill, so you can send it again with the new answer.
